Each Saturday we leave from the shop at 6:30am for the usual loop covering Mounts Bay Road, Subiaco, City Beach, Fremantle, Mosman Park the finishing up at Tiger Tiger just off King Street for coffee.
This particular ride covers 55km of some of Perths metropolitans best cycling routes. The route follows the coast and the river back to the City. It wouldn’t be a bunch ride without a few sprints. We have listed all sprint points below so you can familiarise yourself with them.
Sprint points are as follows:
Oceanic Drive at Bold Park – Catch up on West Coast Highway
Port Beach – Catch up at bus stop on Stirling Highway
Water Tower – Wait at Water Tower
Devils Elbow – Wait at Osborne Parade
Monument – Catch up on Hackett Drive
Mounts Bay – Cafe regroup.
After each sprint, there is a regroup to wait for those that have dropped the wheel. Most regroups take place when the front rider controls the pace until he/she is signalled that everyone is on. Now, if you feel that you wont be able to continue with the efforts, make the someone in the bunch aware of this. As mentioned earlier, it is a no-drop ride but if you are slowing the bunch down too much, they will continue on. The average speed for the ride is usually around 34km/h. Keep in mind that if you can hold 30/31km/h on your own, you will easily hold 43/35km/h in the bunch. Group rides always take a bit of getting used to, even if you have the fitness, riding bar-to-bar with other riders can be daunting. The majority of the ladies and gents that take part in the Elite shop ride have been riding for a very long time and ooze experience. They are all happy to answer any questions you may have. If you receive some criticism, don’t take it personally.
